Job Descriptions
Volunteer Requirements
All swim team families are required to work a total of 5 shifts over the course of the season--1 shift per meet. Volunteer positions are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Signup early to reserve your first choice!
If you find you are unable to attend the shift and job you signed up for, it is your responsibility to find a substitute. This can be a fellow team family that you swap shifts with, a parent willing to take an extra shift, or a teenager willing to work for volunteer hours. You must let the coordinators know who that replacement will be by 3:00 pm on the day of the meet.
Volunteer Descriptions
Timer: Using a stopwatch provided by the team, time one lane of swimmers. Write down the time and give the time sheet to a runner.
Place Judge: Sits at the finishing end of the pool, along with the opposing team's volunteer. Writes or calls out the order each swimmer places (home team calls out, visitor writes; across the pool - visiting team calls out, home team writes).
Runner: Takes the timers’ time sheets and the place judges’ order cards to scorer’s table after each race.
Computer Data Entry: Once the score has been calculated, the timer’s time sheet and the place judge’s order sheet are passed to data entry volunteers. They are responsible for entering times and place finishes into our meet management software.
Set-Up: For home meets only, arrive to pool at 4pm to assist the coaches and coordinators in setting up the pool area and meet equipment.
Announcer: For home meets only, calls out the order of events to inform swimmers of the next event.
Starter: For home meets only, calls the swimmers to the starting area and starts the race. They also flip the event board.
Concessions: For home meets only, prepare and sell food and drink items during the swim meet. Assist with set-up and clean up as well depending on the time of your shift.
